Attention young makers and tech-savvy students!
Work in a real makerspace and explore the world of theatre. We are pleased to be running several Theater Maker Camps this summer. This collaboration between Bas Bleu Theatre, Yendra Built, and Fort Collins Creator Hub brings together theatre design, traditional wood and metal fabrication, and modern maker technology.
See how professional craftsman Zach Yendra approaches furniture building projects or how Summer Reeves brings video game characters to life with costumes. Two-week day camps will be hosted at the Fort Collins Creator Hub and the Yendra Built fabrication studio, providing a unique array of skilled makers, technology, and tools.
This camp is geared toward older students entering grades 7-12 because of the machinery involved, but no previous experience is required. It will be offered as two discrete sessions:
– Costume Design and Leathercraft will be held from 9:00am – 12:30pm.
– Set Design and Woodworking will be held from 1:00pm – 5:00pm.
In Costume Design students will have the opportunity to learn digital design and to use a laser cutter to cut their pieces in leather. In Set Design students will gain training in the safe use of woodworking tools, giving them skills to create objects both artistic and pragmatic – skills that are in high demand in today’s workforce. See extended descriptions for the courses below.

Costume Design and Leathercraft
Students will learn traditional leathercraft skills such as hand-tooling, wet-forming, and staining, as well as modern techniques such as digital design (CAD) and laser cutting to design leather costumes, apparel, and accessories (masks, pauldrons, belts, and wallets).
The Camp is collaboration between Fort Collins Creator Hub, Yendra Built, and Bas Bleu Theatre. The camps will be held at the Fort Collins Creator Hub makerspace, adjacent to Yendra Built fabrication studio. Students are free to design and make what they choose, but will be encouarged to create costumes, allowing for collaboration with Bas Bleu Theatre. A “maker showcase” on the evening June 30 at Bas Bleu will allow students to see their creations in action, onstage, or on display in the lobby. Family and friends are welcome.
Sessions run two weeks, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Session #1: June 19 – 30. Register here.
Session #2: July 31 – August 11. Register here.
As part of the Theatre Maker Camp, the half-day Costume and Leathercraft camp is offered in conjunction with the Set Design and Woodworking Camp. Set Design and Woodworking
The Set Design and Woodworking half-day camp with Zach Yendra will provide the opportunity to design functional, physical objects and then fabricate them with professional woodworking tools. Students will learn how to safely operate power woodworking tools that can be used to custom build common domestic items such as bookshelves, picture frames, tables, and planter boxes, or props and set pieces for the theatre.
